A Productive Day for Girls’ Education in Liberia!
Today was such a productive and inspiring day! I had the privilege of attending the National PTA Network of Liberia (NAPTANOL) Workshop, organized by the Ministry of Education.
It was a great honor to represent both the Girls’ Education Taskforce of the Ministry of Education and LESSAT-Africa. The workshop brought together government agencies, NGOs, UN partners, and donors all working together to strengthen Liberia’s education system.

At LESSAT-Africa, we were honored to mentor and speak with students, inspiring them to stay internally motivated, excel in their studies, and explore exciting careers in science and technology.

We are excited to announce the climax of the LESSAT AFRICA Scholarship Award for the year 2025. The LESSAT Africa Scholarship had more than 100 applicants but only 10 were shortlisted for the final interviews. The scholarship interview process ensured the selection was fair based on the committment of applicants. Therefore, awarding a full academic support candidate in STEM and TVET.
In October 2015, LESSAT collaborated with the Ministry of Education’s Bureau of Science Technology, Vocational and Special Education and LISIS to conduct a National Survey on Science Technology and Innovation Activities.
2014-2015, the organization partnered with LIWOMAC and WE4SELF to conduct a case study on Liberians’ perceptions and attitudes towards the Ebola virus disease in 2014-2015, funded by IREX, USAID, and UNDEF, using Focus Group Discussions.

LESSAT-AFRICA held its inaugural Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Conference for 150 young girls in Monrovia, Liberia, on March 31, 2016.

LESSAT-AFRICA and its partners convened in Stockholm, the capital city of Sweden, to strategize for Liberia’s inaugural peace summit, with a focus on engaging Liberian youth for peace under the hashtag #liberianyouthforpeace.

In 2014, students in Monrovia participated in a three days STEM & TVET Innovation Summit, collaborating with the Young Ambassador of Peace and YMCA to raise awareness about the importance of STEM education in Liberia.

In 2020, LESSAT-AFRICA and MKU YALI-Learns organized a children’s health awareness workshop at General Kargo Primary School in Thika-Kenya as part of Ms. Myers Yali’s final project.

In 2012, LESSAT-AFRICA conducted its first high school STEM and TVET awareness, involving mentors, staff, and teachers.

LESSAT-AFRICA organized mentorship sessions in Kakata, Margibi County, involving three schools. These sessions aimed to support young women who were applying for SHE-CAN Scholarships in the USA.

In 2015, there was a personalized STEM and TVET scholarship mentorship program facilitated by Ms. Doris Myers in Margibi County, Liberia.
SHE-CAN, a partner of LESSAT, made their inaugural visit to the LESSAT-Liberia office located on Carey Street in Monrovia.


At the inaugural STEM AWARD & recognition dinner of LESSAT-AFRICA, Dean Peter Natt honored Ms. Cecelia, president of Society of Women Engineers of Liberia, and other STEM & TVET Executives.

In 2017, LESSAT collaborated with the EMBASSY of Sweden to Liberia to facilitate the Economic Prosperity & Entrepreneurship Lab of the First National Youth Peace Building.

LESSAT-AFRICA held 2019 mentorship sessions with Monrovia schools to support young women applying for SHE-CAN Scholarships in the USA, focusing on high school, travel, and PHD. Involving LESSAT Staff at the Liberia’s office

2018 LESSAT-AFRICA hosted the inaugural STEM AWARD & recognition dinner, honoring STEM & TVET Executives, Teachers, and volunteers.

The founder of LESSAT-AFRICA has been actively engaged in several development forums, advocating for Liberia’s and Africa interests. Notable events include participation in a panel discussion in Accra, Ghana, focusing on scaling opportunities in war-affected nations, representing Liberia in Dublin, Kenya, and involvement in the Starting Strong initiative for the first 1000 days of the SDGs in Nairobi, They also underwent training in Presentation and Facilitation in Stockholm, Rwanda, and conducted a baseline survey in Mayange, Rwanda, to compare the rapid growth and development there to Liberia’s situation.

LESSAT held an Interactive Dinner in 2017 to boost college students’ interest in STEM and TVET professions, featuring live bands, TED talks, and presentations on the importance of science and technology education in Liberia.

Ms. Myers, the founder of LESSAT, and Ms. Heather Been, founder of P.E.N Ghana, had a fruitful meeting with the Vice President of Ghana, Hon. Mahamudu Bawumia. LESSAT-AFRICA expressed gratitude for the valuable insight, mentorship, and support received during the meeting.
