THE PROBLEM
A need to focus on STEM-Driven TVET Skills and Entrepreneurship
Youth Dropout and Unemployment Crisis
Liberia is facing a critical skills gap one that threatens the country’s future development. Especially in rural communities, young people are being left behind. Poverty, early pregnancy, child labor, and long, dangerous journeys to school (often without proper bridges or roads) are pushing students out of the classroom. Those who persist face overcrowded, deteriorating schools with little access to qualified instructors or hands-on learning materials.
Going Deeper
Barriers Leading to Skill Deficits
At the heart of the issue lies a fragile, outdated Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system. It is disconnected from real-world labor demands, particularly in infrastructure, energy, technology, ideation, agriculture, and environmental management. Girls are disproportionately affected, facing added social and cultural barriers that limit their access and success. Without urgent investment, Liberia cannot build the skilled, resilient workforce it needs to grow. LESSAT-AFRICA is here to change that, but we need partners ready to act.
We want Education for all
It is possible for young people in Liberia to gain the skills needed to meet the growing demands of the workforce. To make this a reality, LESSAT-AFRICA is working hand-in-hand with trusted local visionaries to implement innovative solutions that position communities as central agents of their own growth and environmental development.
